A few photos of my stairway wall (first shared here with brown walls and a chair rail) as it currently sits (stands?) with now grey walls and no trim:

Since she asked so nicely :)

{and since you asked: the grey paint is Kendall Charcoal and the blue is Quiet Moments, both by Benjamin Moore}

I love this! I live in an all-white apartment (SO MUCH WHITE!) and can't paint, so this is such a fun way to decorate with minimal damage. Did you have all of the pictures framed before you put them up, or did you just add pictures as you took them? Also, where did you get the frames and were they expensive?

I LOVE it! Our stairway has walls on both sides so it is not as open...but we do have a big empty wall in our playroom that I would love to decorate with frames! Where did you find the frames and the different mat sizes? Thanks!!!

This is such an inspiration for my own stairway wall. Currently I just have 4 simple frames (1 for each kid) lined up diagonally but I LOVE the mixture you've done on yours and will likely be following suit very soon. :-)

Girls -
1. Thanks, glad you like it!
2. I think I started with a good amount of pictures and just keep adding to it as I get new prints I like.
3. I have purchased the majority of the frames at yard sales and painted them black. From time to time I have had to have mats cut to a specific size (hobby lobby will cut mats for a decent price) or if they didn't come with white mats, but sometimes I get lucky.
4. I also buy frames from real stores at real (ouch!) prices sometimes when I need something quick or specific.

Think I covered it all?

yes! love it. thanks so much for posting these. I'm going to try and make this happen in my house. Do you think it would be totally tacky to use all the same frames? ikea just has such good prices...

Lena - no, all the same frames are not tacky! I just did another wall of photos on my sewing room with all white Ribba frames (yes, I have a lot of photos). Do it. But know that I'm jealous that Ikea is just a hop skip and a jump from you.

Love it! I’ve always wanted to try and do this on our stairway wall…I just might have to attempt it now after seeing how wonderful it looks! :)

I absolutely adore this! I have been working on a gallery wall in our master and have had the toughest time finding frames that I like but that don't cost a fortune. I love the idea of just painting the frames black (that's the color I've been looking for). Do you use spray paint? Any particular paint or tools you recommend? Also, do you generally buy ones with mats? Or do places like hobby lobby sell generic sizes (in addition to offering the custom cuts you mentioned)?

I hate to ask again, but what are the paint colors? The gray and that beautiful blue.
Love your style!

LOVE <3 this idea. so totally going to use this idea later down the road!!

Bliss - I added the paint colors to the post just for you! :)

Jen - I sometimes spray paint them for convenience. But, if you want to do it right, you should buy an oil-based satin paint from a specialty paint store.

And yes, Hobby Lobby does sell standard mat sizes at very reasonable prices, in addition to their custom cutting service.

Thanks for the answers to my questions. I smell some yard sales in my future this weekend!

I love the gray color...is it the same color you have in your more recent post of the bedroom? Do you have the whole room painted that color or only one wall? Just wondering if it's too dark? I absolutely love your decorating style!!!

M- The color on the stairs is Kendall Charcoal and the colors in my bedroom are Boothbay Grey and Coventry Grey by Benjamin Moore (the darker grey is on one wall - the one pictured).

Okay so my question is how did you manage to hang them? Did you prop a stepstool on the stairs? In our old house we had landings so it was easier to hang picture, but in our new house I am too short to get them very high!
